There Will Always Be a Light on for you was created through an extensive co-design process where the artists worked in partnership with many Inner West community association. These groups regularly donate time, skills and positivity to enrich our civic lives, helping us connect with culture, the environmental and each other. Each lantern is testament to the groups involved, celebrating their energy and generosity. The resulting artefacts of reciprocity are a physical reminder that in time of crisis, the way forward is to actively foster a diverse and supportive community. This work was developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and reminds us of the importance of promoting acceptance and unity through our diversity. There Will Always Be a Light on for you is a positive emblem of community, making Fox’s Lane a place of welcome with the message that ‘here’ is home. Peranakan Project with Clache Roang, Sabrina Basuki, Stine Baska and Vania Djunaidi
Focusing on themes of remembrance and the holding of disappearing histories, visual artists will create points of connection between the past and present cultures of Southern and South East Asia, exploring senses of belonging, while engaging with audiences through performance and installation. Through quotidian objects and personal narratives, these travellers change and adapt a collected memory, creating new gifts for the now. Diaspora displaced, creating bridges from the past to a current space, embracing a diverse future in celebration of our contemporary multicultural world.
